About the Event

Join Shirley's Kitchen Cabinet, Joey Thomas of 180V Barber Salon, DeJuan Bonds of Purple Label Barbershop and other beauty professionals for an afternoon of conversation, leaders gathering, and legislative change surrounding the CROWN Act - a law ending hair discrimination based on hairstyles and hair textures at school and in the workplace.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of this law and continue to advance efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable world for black men, women, and children.

This event will provide a space for beauty professionals to share their experiences and expertise while connecting with local change-makers to come up with actionable strategies for creating change in our communities to ultimately end hair discrimination once and for all.

We encourage beauty leaders of all backgrounds and anyone who wants to learn how to take action to attend this event. We must grow the support of black women and women of color wearing their natural hair at school, in the workplace, in public, in the media, and across Kansas and Missouri.
