Securing the CROWN in 2021

By SKC Staff Georgia W.

This January, Black women met to discuss the importance of Missouri House Bill 282 and 503 that were introduced to protect individual rights and to prohibit discrimination against hairstyles based on race.

In case some of y’all don’t know, the CROWN Act aims to Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair and was created on July 3, 2019. The Missouri Senate is in the process of considering the CROWN Act, which is MAJOR move forward for Black women in our state!! In St. Louis, Alderwoman Shameem Clark Hubbard is helping in getting this Act signed and put into action with support from some members of the Kansas City, Mo city council following our passage of the Act as only the second municipality to pass it. Take the time this year to celebrate your natural hair and show your support for the work in Missouri to pass the CROWN Act in our state! Whether your in box braids, twists, full fro or a snatched lace-front, work it and use hashtag #SecuringMyCROWN for your social media posts; Shirley’s KC will be sharing them!
